VDEh-BetriebsForschungsInstitut GmbH (BFI) is a non-profit research organisation with a staff of around 100 people. Two main work areas are process optimisation and automation. Advanced automation and control, as well, as cutting-edge optimization techniques and machine learning technologies are a crucial cornerstone of BFI research, yielding several Horizon2020, RFCS and national funded projects on this topic.
In SMARTER, BFI contributes to the development of process and networks models and energy optimization approaches, by leading the development of strategies for improved processes synchronization and strongly supporting ABG in realization, on-site implementation, field testing and validation of the SMARTER system.
